Save me looking right now, anyone recently picked up or know of an all in one tool box/ chest/ trays that come with a good variety but in low number screws, brackets, plugs, and general useful stuff for non trades?

I'm good for general tools to be honest, but am not against looking at something that may come with more hand tools. I just came to fix some drawers and got lucky with some bits i had lying about, so could do with stocking up. I don't want/need 2000 piece screw sets as any bigger jobs i just borrow from my Dad or go buy when needed.

Edit, i store my kit in the house (no garage/shed), hence keeping things minimal.

Personally I've never seen one. Wouldn't it be easier to just make a list of the things that you feel would be useful, and then buy them all at once from a DIY store? If you want to browse, there's a list of DIY stores here.

The problem I find with these sort of packs is they very rarely contain what you actually need, or always have the wrong side for it. I'd just buy what you need when you need it.

Too true, that's a painful reminder. Hopefully get a decent shed sorted at some point and then i can fill it with bits "i might need" :D

IMO buy the bits you need, in decent quality, as and when needed. TBF yellow/red/brown plugs and about 4-5 lengths of screw should cover you for a lot of DIY. I have a Stanley plastic toolbox that has everything I need for basic DIY except the drill. Picture hanging and hooks live in one compartment, radiator keys etc in another. Main compartment has hand tools, plugs, screws and bits of wood/sandpaper.

I do now have a single 1000 piece screw pack thing and it's been quite handy over 3 separate boxes of 15/30/50mm screws.

Come back the old fashioned hardware shop where you could buy a widget or a thingummybob, a pound of nails wrapped up in brown paper or a half dozen bright screws.

Sigh, I had a Saturday job in just such an establishment, running up and down three floors of store rooms to fulfil the customers needs.

These grab packs can offer good value for money for a range of sizes and come with a useful storage box. Just check the screw sizes and make sure they're all useful to you, as some contain a load of tiny screws that you may not use.

Thereafter, you can probably just buy individual boxes of screws and refill with the sizes you use.

I like the Fischer DuoPower screw set.

6, 8 and 10mm plugs with the correct screws and you get 70 sets of each which should last most DIYers a long time.

The reason I like these is they work on every possible substrate found in a UK home. You don’t have to worry about plug selection, just grab one the right load rating.

Those grab bags of wood screws are really useful, i've had a couple from B&Q over the years and then just top up with boxes of a specific size if i need them for a job.
