Hey all,

Looking to build a server so I can get some hands on with Microsoft bits and pieces with a view to working my way through MCSE certifications.

Can anyone advise me the best method of doing this? Could spend around £500 on bits and pieces if I can host a few virtual machines on it? Have 32gb of DDR3 spare here but don't have anything else to take advantage of it!

Thanks in advance :)

just use virtual box on your current pc if you have plenty of ram.

Second that advice, should be adequate while you do the basics. Then look to building a server later on when you will have a better idea on what you need.

RAM is everything when visualizing, work on roughly 1.5GB per Windows OS and maybe 2-2.5Gbytes for SQL servers! Not sure about exchange/web/Linux servers etc.
