I know I'm talking filth here, but I'm planning to buy and fit a towbar to my avensis estate with single electrics just for my cycle carrier.

Is it easy to fit a tow bar yourself, and of course the electrics? I'm planning on getting dedicated 7 pin wiring for my motor rather than the universal kit that I believe you have to faff with. I'm fine bolting stuff on, but electrics are not my forte.

How easy is the electric stuff to fit?

I know I can get a mobile fitter to do this - however one turned up today and the tow bar manufacturer clearly thought a specific tow bar kit would fit mine, bit of course it wouldn't.

Any help would be appreciated.

I fitted one to a rover 200 before. Wasn't too hard to remove the bumper, then undo a couple of bits and fit the tow bar.

The electrics just spliced onto the existing wiring with those blue clips. A vehicle specific wiring might use something a bit less crude, so should be even easier.

It's handy to have a trailer board with you so when you wire the electtrics up, you know you're doing it right.
