DIY tyre balance?

Anyone had any experience of those DIY bubble balancers for wheel balancing?

A mate bought one after he got a tyre changing machine, only took him a couple of weeks before he bought a 'proper' balancing machine.

He's a very handy guy too and always skint so wouldn't have done that if it wasn't worthwhile.

Proper balancing machines are pretty expensive but used ones sometimes appear for a few £100. Probably worth it if you plan on using it regularly.

From what I’ve read, they will balance well enough around the axle line, but better machines are able to tell whether the weight should be applied to the inner or outer lip of the rim.

No, it’s one of these situations where you need to stay on your lane and realise there’s a reason garages have the kit.
