Im doing some wheels up at the moment myself, and am just wondering about getting a durable finish.

I've taken time to prep them as best I can - primed properly, sanded and so on, Im ready to get the color on tomorrow, and hopefully get them lacquered !

I have some Halfords Clear Lacquer at the moment, is that sufficiently chip resistant etc, or is there something better or stronger or what ?

I know they wont be perfect, but I want to do as good a job as possible.

I always use metal protect laquer, its made by plasticoat i think, available at b&q, its much better than a std laquer as it is an acid etch laquer meaning it has acid in it which bites into the paint giving it a damn good grip to the pain.

Did you use acid etch laquer on the bare metal? please tell me you did.

I used plasticote metal primer, if you mean primer, if not, I didnt lacquer the bare metal - that would seem pointless

U-Pol do a good lacquer, I've got some and used it before on some rear clusters. UV resistant to, although its about £10 a can
