DJ career but also go to uni?

As his musical career began to take off, he put his law degree on hold, although he finished law school.

Maybe it's trying to say that it wasn't his priority anymore but he still passed it?

If you are asking if you can take a break from uni part-way through and go back after your other career goes wrong then dont ask us, you need to ask your uni. I doubt they will give you a solid answer so it will be taking a risk.

If you are asking if this is a sensible thing to do?? No - its a pretty stupid thing to do in my opinion. For every "Armin van Buuren" there are 10,000 wannabe dossers who end up wasting thier lives in a vain attempt to "make it" as a DJ.

Where there's a will there's a way.

I don't know what unis are like in Holland, perhaps they're more lenient than here. Trying to make it as a DJ is pretty rare and it's a dream all right. He may have been on good terms with his tutors and they might have allowed him to defer for a year or something. All courses will allow students to do this if they've got a good reason, i.e. illness, family problems, or doing something related to the course. Being a DJ though, well,..

Perhaps he lied about one of those things to get a year off, i.e. suspend his studies?

Wasn't Armin actually becoming quite big when he was still studying so persuing his career as opposed to his studies won't have looked like a bad idea to his Uni. Having famous alumni is always a good thing and most Unis will be pretty flexible if the person shows a lot of promise in other areas. Without knowing your background I'd guess the difference between you and him is that during his degree he was already releasing songs that were getting into the charts. I'd be surprised if they would help so much if you're just doing it on a whim.

A lot of unis allow you to put your degree on hold, and go back to complete it after, its not anything new or difficult to do if you need to.

It's possible in the UK, but I'm sure you need good reasoning and they won't let everyone do it. For example, I knew a girl who did, but she basically had a mental breakdown.

If you think about it, if somebody takes time out, you've then got less people in the year they left. Meanwhile, when the person returns to another year, there will be more people in that year than there should be. It's not something they want people to be doing, you signed up to a degree course so you are supposed to commit to it.
