DJ Hero

Can't wait to see how they execute this :p

It's rumoured to have Daft Punk on it - which would automatically put it into the awesome category :)

It would be a bit like beatmania I imagine - of which I got for the ps1 - complete with turntable from makro ages ago for a tenner - which was a pretty good find!! :D

I think, depending on the songs - I would definitly get this game!

Though I would still prefer to play the long running beatmaniaIIDX series, this could be fun on its own right, just like Guitar Freaks and Guitar Hero.

Beatmania has been running for a long ass time, had a huge following in japan, not such a following over here resulting in it getting sold in places for £5-10 including the controller for ps1.

Wonder if Konami have anythign to say about this

Patents I would expect, they've been doin mania series for a while mind you saying that I think they released the first guitar game too :/

Guitar Freaks and DrumMania, I remember there was a little ripple over here when Guitar freaks released in JP but I can't think I ever actually saw one over here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GuitarFreaks

Just looking at that a bit more...
The DrumMania arcade cab looks as if the kit has been pretty much copied for GH:WT

Theyve also released these as recent as the PS2, Wonder why konami didnt release any for ps3/360 or even xbox for that matter

Who made the controllers for GH and are they in anyay linked to konami I wonder

I think Konami have some sort of agreement in their patent. Because there are so many DDR games (Step Mania ***) and there's other DJ games (Scratch: The Ultimate DJ ).

Licensing and patents are some of the biggest reasons why Konami never made a major effort bring out many of their Bemani line of music games out to the West. There is also costs in manufacturing the peripherals and not to mention cultural barriers too. I mean I doubt many people would enjoy playing J-Pop/J-Rock tunes or original Konami in-house music.

Even with some specific Western releases of their games, they tend to be really crap and pale into comparison. DDR EuroMix, or Beatmania for the PS2 are huge examples. It was just so dated and far too late when it came out, especially when the series has been the much better and much harder beatmaniaIIDX for ages. Beatmania IIDX 16: Empress, being the most recent release since last Autumn.

And yes, Guitar Freaks and Drummania have been out long before all the Guitar Heros and such. Especially since GF and DM were able to link their arcade machines together.

I bought a Guitar Heor guitar couple of months ago and its crap, its nothing but a few button and some plastic joining them, its a mugs game, I paid £150 for Steel Battalion a game limited to 5000 worldwide and its more complex than 6 buttons and some vacuum molded plastic.

Even though DJ Hero is closer to the real thing, the gameplay just looks too slow and dare I say, boring? But then I guess it depends on the songs they use. Hopefully they got some decent Dance/Techno/Eletronica tracks in there.

Still, I rather stick to Beatmania IIDX. For me it's just more fun due to it's own mechanics and what a great way to "level up" your hand/eye speed reflexes and coordination.
