Hey guys,

Just a quick upload of my setup that I have finished today.

I hope to upgrade a few components, add maybe a laptop and an effect processor at Christmas time, will see how the budget pans out :D

I would have loved something like that about ten years ago. Looks fun. Purchases I'd recommend would be some new speakers and some sennheiser hd25s :)

Very nice. What mixer is that? Looks like a nice and neat little thing. I'll agree with Hedge that better speakers would be a fine upgrade, but they should go alongside a better amp too, unless you go powered monitor route. Looking forwards to any updates you might have in the future.

I have the same SC2900's. Got them for an absolute steal, so couldn't resist. Also have an Allen & Heath DB4 mixer, and a pair of 1210's. And a couple Traktor F1's, an A&H K2 and a Reloop Contour. And the obligatory HD25's, but also a pair of A&H XD2-53's. It all runs through a NAD stereo amp and B&W LM1 speakers.

Don't really have enough space to set it all up at the same time though. That would take up WAY too much room, although I did, at one point, have a 4 x 1210 setup with the DB4, but I now use my monitors on that bench in my office.

This was me just before the CDJ upgrade:

Yeah, the amp (CD player) and speakers are temporary for now. I have a Audio Technica DJ headset coming sometime next week.

WOW! Nice setup mate! The mixer is a DENON DN-X 600. Got a great price on it, its as new really with the faders and knobs with high resistance, which is surprising as its a good few years, as they have discontinued the DN-X series now.

Quick question for you..I am looking to get a cheap laptop to run some DENON ENGINE software, but the specs required seem a little high, would it need to me a mid / high range Mac / W10 laptop to run it?

nice set up , but you should have kept the TT's :)

Oh, I still have them, for when I fancy playing some of my 3,000+ records I will never, ever sell. So no worries there. I can set them up whenever I want. BUT, I don't normally buy vinyl anymore. A matter of availability as much as cost. And I wanted to ditch the laptop / DJ software for when I'm messing about. That Windows laptop has since been replaced with a Macbook Pro. But realistically, it only runs Audacity to record my sets.

I don't actually use Engine for the SC2900's, other than to analyse the tracks and exporting them to USB. Which I do on my desktop rig. The laptop only runs Audacity now, despite having both Serato and Traktor. So I generally analyse my tracks, prepare a playlist, export to USB, all on my Ryzen R7 Desktop. Then plug USB into one SC2900, I have them linked via CAT5 cable. Run USB on the deck with the stick, and link the other via the link function. Then select my playlist, and go through it that way. If I want to add another track that hasn't been pre-prepared, then I can pop that on another USB stick for the "free deck". But my USB stick is already full of other playlists, so I can just likely search for it in the USB. And it's obviously recorded on the Macbook with Audacity using the DB4 onboard soundcard.

You can't use Engine Prime with the SC2900's though. It's the older Engine you need. I wouldn't imagine it would need an overly high spec machine to run that. However, my old windows machine was second generation i5. My Macbook is a late 2012 model upgraded to 10GB RAM and an SSD. Picked that up for around £300 then added the mods for an extra £60 or so off the MM on here.

Wish I never sold my Vestax PDX2000s and my sl1210mk3. I sold them all for about 4/500 quid too :(

Quick update to my deck setup guys..

Anyone here used the Pioneer DJM-350 ? Considering changing to this unit, my Numark is a stop gap for now..

Looking good that.

I had one when I had my CDJ350 set-up ages ago. It's little more than a stop gap mixer too in all honesty. See if you can get a second hand Allen & Heath DB2. My cousin recently picked one up for a bargain at under £500 second hand. About the same price as a new Pioneer DJM-350.

I'm sure you are wanting to keep with the Pioneer though by the looks of it. But when I swapped my DJM-350 to the DJM-800 it was a big jump. I guess the equivalent move would be the current DJM-750 or similar. But to my mind, Pioneer are overpriced, and don't sound as nice as the Allen & Heath stuff, or Rane. You don't NEED to keep with Pioneer on the mixer side though, since your decks will be Rekordbox anyway.

Of course, it depends on what you want too. Are you wanting effects? Good sound quality? Soundcard built in? Ease of recording? IIRC you could just plug a USB drive into the DJM-350 and record straight to that. I think that was just about it's only redeeming feature. If you're not worried about effects or soundcard, an Allen & Heath Xone 92 would be a fantastic mixer, but probably overkill if your only using 2 sources. And no soundcard. Where the DB2 has a soundcard, so you can add on controllers like the Native Instruments X1, Allen & Heath K2/K1 or Reloop Contour to add extra sources to the mix. As well as being able to record through the soundcard on your laptop.

I am perhaps a bit biased towards the A&H stuff though. I went into the shop to buy the DJM-900 Nexus, and came away with the A&H DB4 though. I found it to be far superior.

What did you do with your SC2900's?

Cheers mate, pleased with it so far. got a cracking deal on the RMX 500 from WhyBuyNew..awesome service, highly recommend.

After good sound quality mainly, the RMX will handle most of my effects. So you reckon I should be looking at A&H then?

I sold the 2900's, didn't get a great price, but good enough to get a decent 0.0% APR on finance for the XDJ-700's.

How much did you get for the SC2900's out of curiosity? My cousin was looking for a set after I picked mine up. I doubt he'd manage for the epic £275 I paid for mine though, lol.

If all your looking for is a cheap, 2 channel mixer, that sounds good, the 23 would, I'm sure, be great. Try to pony up for the 23C though, so you get the built in soundcard. It'll make it much easier for recording your sets, and potentially using DJ software further down the line. Looks like it's only an extra £70 or so, but will save you messing about later on if you want to try out the likes of Traktor and that. You should be able to hack your registry or something if you want to try out DVS and stuff later.

Not a lot mate, I got £270 for the pair  But was struggling to sell so thought **** it, it was to a shop, not private.

Yeah, only needing a two channel mixer, so I think I will look into the 23 / 23C around the Christmas period. I have until the 31st of Jan to return the Numark, which is great, plenty of time..

Oh man. Wish I'd clocked that. I'd have probably got them off you for him. But then there would have inevitably been messing around with postage and stuff. Extra hassle for you.

Yeah, I'd go for the 23C personally. It's worth having a soundcard in your mixer for sure. And with that send / return loop, and you having the RMX, you should be all set.

Yeah, that was the other reason I sold to a shop was not worrying about postage and damage etc...

I think I might go down the 23 / 23C route nearer Christmas, like I said, plenty of time to return the Numark, but Kinda want a new one, yesterday :p:p

@xs2man

quick question for you mate, I have returned the RMX 500 as I don't really use it much, albeit a great piece of kit, I was looking it using the cash for it for a Pioneer DJM-250mk2. Do you have any experience with this mixer?? Is it worth the money, being a Pioneer and all..?

Cheers.

I have no experience with that mixer, no. My mixer experience was Cheap KAM 2 channel (properly broken) > Gemini PS626 > Vestax PMC 170A > Pioneer DJM 350 > Pioneer DJM 800 > Allen & Heath DB4. I have played with a couple other mixers over the years, but these are the ones I've owned, so can give proper opinions on them. I will say, the DJM 350 was ok for what it was. But it was a "toy mixer". I should say, I am not a professional DJ or anything. I have never "played out", nor had much desire to do so. I only do this as a hobby for me, and only for me. So my exposure to other equipment that I have not owned myself, is fairly limited. Usually just what I have tried out in shops before purchasing what I end up with.

The DJM 800 was a huge leap forward. But if your budget is only around £300, even second hand, you would probably struggle for one of them. Even for a DJM 700. So the 250 mk2 might be around the best you'll afford. As I said before though, I'd probably be more tempted with a 23C. Although at least the DJM 250 comes with a Rekordbox DVS license, should you want to add tunrtables at a later date (although you will still be stuck with a 2 channel mixer). But I doubt it will sound as good. And the filters on the 23C will be nicer, I'm sure.

Hey, thanks for the input mate, I have bit the bullet and gone for the XONE : 23. its not the C version but if I decide to dabble in the future im sure by then I will have more funds to put toward a 23C or the equivalent. Will update the thread once I receive it (hopefully tomorrow!).

Hey,

I have decided to keep the Denon DN-X120 mixer. Its virtually brand new, 2 year warranty and does everything I need atm, apart from the High/Low pass which isnt a big deal at this stage for me, will be back with a few photos soon..

Good stuff. Yeah, gaining only filters wouldn't have made much sense realistically. The23C with a soundcard might have, but to just gain filters and a potentially warmer sound, I think you made the correct choice. Upgrade the mixer when you can really upgrade the mixer. I have been through a few, but it's been a long, slow road since 1998 when I bought my first 1210's and that Kam mixer.
