DLC on launch - Yay or nay?

Pre order/collectors editions with little bonuses like items/skins etc is fine.

Fully fledged game content on launch as DLC? Hell to the mother ****ing No.

Assassins Creed II set the bar for me.

Any game that has levels or content wilfully removed, so they can package it in to DLC, deserves to bomb.

I will buy DLC if it adds to the game in a way that I can choose to ignore (or not), e.g. Batman challenge maps, but I won't buy any if it's obvious the developer is trying to nickel and dime the end user.

Nay, really didn't like what BW did with ME3's dlc, to release such a vitaly important character as day one dlc stuck in the throat, especially when it turned out the files where in the vanila game allready, they'd just pulled the content to dlc it.

I'm done with Bioware, still pains me to this day the amount of DLC i bought individually for DA Origins, all crappy little hour long ones at £5.99 a pop. Awakeing on the other hand was fine.

NAY NAY and thrice NAY.

I can live with a bit cosmetic tat or "cheats" in literal sense(cheat codes, unlocks) and cheat items that just make the game easier(like the items with DE:HR or Red Dead Redemption). None of them interest me. They are for people with no sense or more money than they know what to do with. Which are bigger problems than DLC. It's exploitative but if the market is there they would be silly not to.

But actual game content? There's little worse and it really puts me off paying for a game at launch(sometimes ever). It's inexcusable and special ediitions and collector's editions should be giving things like soundtracks, art, toys, tat, not game content. At the end of the day it's our brothers in the community we have to blame for the DLC mess we are in now. They are offering it, it sells, they make money, they repeat it. The glorious and discerning PC ubermensch is promoting the practice.

Day one DLC that is actually included with the product but has its access restricted until you pay extra should be banned. If there is going to be day one Downloadable Content, at least make it so it has to be downloaded..

Also, a big NAY to day one DLC. I'm not even a big fan of DLC as it is.
Rockstar are one of the few companies that understand what customers deserve in terms of DLC, the GTA 4 campaigns + Undead Nightmare for red dead.

Nay from me!

Stupidly bought the stupid armour pack for Amalur on day 1 but about 5 seconds after I paid I thought 'you dumb ass!'

Haven't done it since, still haven't bought ME3(despite the 1st 2 been my favorite ever games) and won't until everything inc dlc and the better endings are in 1 package.

I hate it, always makes me feel as if I'm missing out.

I haven't bought Mass Effect 3 for this and many other reasons.

I also hate that distributor specific DLC

DLC is shiz most of the time IMO, but it is especially annoying when it is announced before the game is even out. what I find just as irritating is the retailer packs like buy at game you get an extra mission or buy at HMV you get a different mission it sucks balls to miss out on content because you choose to shop elsewhere.

I wasn't a big fan of GTA4 bar the amazing radio station work but they did get the "dlc" for it completely right. Pay a bit more and get something really substantial. I had no problems getting the "dlc" for GTA and RDR, they are more like proper expansions. But Rockstar have went on the record saying that they wouldn't be doing it again, that there is more money in the smaller cheaper naff that people eat up. A great shame but looking at Max Payne you can see they meant it.

Bethesda and Obsidian got it right with F3 and New Vegas, consistency and quality aside.

A big fat ******* NAY from me.

This.

DLC is a great concept for adding content to an existing game. Day 1 DLC is just a way of milking more money from an already paying customer.

Decent DLC like Sergeant Knoxx, Liberty City stories, Harley's revenge, etc is great. Hours of content that wouldn't work by itself as a new game.

If you're going to take a mission that was finished when the game was released, and charge me for it when I'm already paying full price for the game on day one, you can stick it.
