hi all, ive forgotten the name of it so hoping someone can help me !!
was told on here a long time ago about a £30/40 router i think was from dlink that was able to change the firmware to make it a £300 router!
basicly i need a router to restirct access or bandwidth to a computer in the house allowing more speed to be given to mine!

Not aware of a Dlink, Netgear and Linksys routers support 3rd party firmware on some models, such as DGTeam, DDWRT and Tomato.

What router do you have currently? What you wish to do is doable using QoS.

currently have the sky router (netgear)
after doing a quick search on google at the ones you mentioned im pretty sure it was the Linksys DDWRT.
i basiclly want to be able to restrict to my sisters pc and give more to me so i can play online games more!!

I think the dwl-2100 is capable of being flashed with dd-wrt along with the ancient (802.11b) dir-330, but what you're looking for is a way of giving an access point firewall feature and i just don't know if that's possible. Oh and simply bandwidth allocation i.e. 2 meg for me 1 for her only creates unused bandwidth, qos in the route would be far better. If you wanted to do that flashing a WRT54g with Tomato would do.

You want to set up a QoS policy not bandwidth trottling.

Basically you set your IP address/mac address to be higher priority to her, thus if there's contention for the available bandwidth then you get it, else it's free for her to use.
