Sorry to start another thread on this guys

Getting numerous dll files not being able to be copied while im trying to reinstall windows

If i quit and do everything again, ie format etc it sometimes goes past the one its just done

Is it worth just taking note of any it skips and downloading them when i finally get into windows???

Just got through the setup and was gretted with

"Setup cannot set the required Windows XP Configuration information. This is an internal setup error

Contact your system administrator"

So different DLLs are causing problems then? Is your CD new or scratched? Have you got another PC to try on?

I can think its either the CD, CD drive or HDD being the problem here. Do you have another CD drive in PC or another HDD you can install to to eliminate these variables?

Can you explain the problem a bit better please?

From what I can gather, you're getting error messages about DLLs not installing correctly, during the Windows installation process? If it's missing DLLs like this, I doubt you'll get into Windows afterwards anyway. Important DLLs such as hal.dll need to be installed properly before Windows will load.

Surely the obvious thing to check is Windows disc you're installing from? Try installing it on another machine if you can, and if you get the same errors, the disc is scratched/corrupt.

getting some help from bledd over MSN

dont have another machine i can install on apart from my laptop but thats got it prebuilt in

we think it might be the drive, tried a few things and having another go at installing now *fingers crossed*

it's in the 'blue screen' xp setup stage (copying files) he's getting the errors, i reckon it's either the dvd drive (sata), or a combination of that and the bios possibly

could be ram or hard drive (or even cables) though, it's stopping at different files each time, so doubtfull that it's the media, plus its a real xp disc, not a backup copy

I was thinking that it could be almost anything from CD drive/cd cables/hdd/hdd cables/RAM but wasn't sure if saying that would seem too outlandish.

Could the CD be copied to the laptop and see what the MD5 checksum is? Then do the same on the PC and see that the MD5 checksum is this time round? Or would that not help?

Have you recommended MemTest86+? If we can at least eliminate RAM then we are making some kind of progress.

Perhaps a friend or neighbour would be willing to lend you a spare HDD that you can plug in and see if that works or not? Just to try and eliminate the PC HDD being the problem.

well im going on holiday tomorrow, so its getting left until i get back

will ask again later, thanks though guys :)
