Hi all,

I recently purchased a sony ray player for my home entertainment system, s570 model, which is wireless N conx or can be wired straight into the router. Further more it has DLNA feature.

I also ordered a sony vaio laptop which has Intel i5 460M 2.5Ghz and 320gb hard drive. Finally I'm upgrading my wireless router to Virgin Media's 20Mb with a Wireless N router.

I want to add a NAS drive to my wireless network so my dad can turn on the blue ray drive, connect to the media server and watch movies or access his iTunes library . Because the blue ray player is DLNA, should I invest in a DLNA Nas drive in order for both devices to communicate wirelessly or would I be able to better buy a normal NAS drive like Western digital connect to the router and then connect through a network cable into router to the blue ray player.

My overall aim is to get the best performance.

These are the drives I am thinking of:

Thanks

Nathan

I would remove those links pronto unless you want to get banned.

Linking to a competitor regarding products which can be bought fmor ocuk is not allowe don the forums I believe. You could however just mention make and models - where you buy is up to you.

On the nas front I've heard good things about the synology enclosures which ocuk also sell.

wired connections are much better if you are streaming movies from it, i have a netgear nas and found that streaming wireless to the ps3 will give you some issues on a decent quality movie, wired there is no problem with any format/res.
I don't really understand the initial question so sorry if i've not given you any useful info!
you would normally have the nas plugged into the router then anything that connects to it wired or wireless goes through the router...

From what I gather, DLNA is still a bit flaky compares to WAN / LAN. I would therefore connect via LAN for streaming. You always have the DLNA to fall back on when you want to connect something that supports DLAN but not WiFi.

Hi guys thank you for your responses.

Ok so wired is the way forward. So let me get this straight.

1. Connect a normal Nas drive to the my router.
2. Connect my sony blue ray player to the wireless router.
3. THe Nas drive should then appear as a media server???

Therefore I wouldnt have to buy a NAS drive which is DLNA compliment???

Sorry guys my networking is not the best.

Cheers for the help!
