DLSS 5 preview

I don't know how you can claim that, DLSS 4.5 is better than native resolution usually.

Just because DLSS 5 has now added things that a lot of people are unhappy about doesn't make the previous versions **** all of a sudden.
That might have been your takeaway but that wasn’t what I saying or implying.

Yes there are obviously plenty of issues with motion right now, clear from the way they’ve avoided motion on most of their demos.
I can bet partially it's because the FPS generated by the AI model is pathetic (my bets are on 30) on second 5090, which then requires FG to even reach playable FPS (they already said FG is required). And then they will tell us we need 6k series to go above 60 in games etc. And it was supposed to help speed up games, instead of slowing them down. :) They should've marked it as tech demo in development and not dlss 5, maybe then they wouldn't get so much backlash - it's clearly not ready for production.

They literally did market it as a preview and tech demo.

I genuinely think they are just going all in on AI. It’s a bubble they can’t afford to burst and now they are shoehorning it in to games in ways that look like crap. Yes it has promise but the backlash of this early preview is totally warranted.

Even looking at the environmental “enhancements” has left me less than the mildly impressed that I was initially.

I am a pragmatist when it comes to AI. Right now I'm splitting my time running my own game studio versus working for a 100% AI fintech startup. Over the last year with the AI startup I've gone from cynical software engineer to grudgingly accepting that AI is increasingly 'good enough' for a lot of stuff with minimal oversight. The CEO is always keen to point out this:

However good or bad AI tools are right now...they are only going to get better, more powerful, and more useful over time, it's in the nature of machine learning systems.

nVidia have demoed their first stab at ML rendering...this was always coming....and frankly, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they fully expected all the memes.

Has anyone not heard of DLSS5 at this point? Job done.

I'm a software engineer by trade and have run my own B2B software company for the last 10 years now.

That's been precisely my journey and experience also.

Meh, it maybe be slop but people will still go ahead and buy whatever the next Geforce generation is, expect AMD to follow suit with the same features but two years later.

As a manager of a busy IT Service Desk our AI journey has been similar. Initially hyped with very little return of investment but initially at least it is a horizontal shift of effort and time from good scripting to good prompting.

It does of course have promise but on closer inspection this new demo is just not good enough for the hype DF gave it. It is obviously a major WiP and needs a lot of work, just like AI is typically.

It will be ready once the 6090 is out. Am I right? :p

I think Nvidia just utterly failed to read the room. PC gamers are very ****** right now that AI demand has pushed prices to ridiculous levels for certain components. Add to this the cancellation of the 5000 super series and the delay of the 6000 series, not to mention AMD paywalling FSR4 behind a 9000 series GPU.

So the majority of PC gamers are AI averse right now. The backlash on DF and in particular Nvidia is like watching one of those karma videos where a moron pokes a hornets nest then gets all upset the hornets ****** them up.
