Yeah DLSS sharpening is now deprecated in the latest version. We’re recommending devs use NIS (Nvidia image scaler) sharpening instead.

NIS has an arguably superior sharpening technique and can also provide a cross platform, non-RTX hardware fallback for upscaling."

Not very clear why they are recommending NIS..... NIS is not what you should be using to sharpen the image, that is nvidias competitor to RSR, they're both spatial upscalers like FSR 1 (except forced through the control panel) and should only be used as a last resort if dlss 2 or/and FSR 2+ is not present:

Nvidia has 2 ways of sharpening:

- through the geforce experience overlay/filter but this hits performance a bit harder as it also adds in other effects and not just sharpening
- via the windows xp control panel per game or global profile which doesn't hit performance much, if at all, at least on my system

If you want to add sharpening, the best way is still via redux/sweetfx or if the game has its own sharpness setting.

With regards to nvidia removing dlss sharpening, best move they could do as is it harmed IQ when added and in some games if you reduced sharpening to 0, you were actually adding negative sharpness i.e. blurring the image but it was never made clear this. Now wish they would also disable post processing effects like DOF, motion blur, vignette, CA as they do with the AA setting when dlss is enabled as these also harm IQ if left on.
