DLT Auto Tape Loader Problem

Wonder if anyone can help,

I've got an overlander 10 DLT IV Auto loader that if I put brand new tapes in works fine can backup and erase no problem.

Now the problem is I've got a load of second hand dlt tapes from different places and when I load them in the head claims the tapes are in read only mode or can not read the data on the tapes? I can not format the tapes I've tried different backup software packages to try to format but to no avail.

Anyone know what could be the problem or does anyone know of a way to format a DLT tape and properly destroy all data back to new

The tapes haven't got the lock tab in the lock position have they?

Worth checking that they are compatible tapes also.

they are compatible and no the lock is not in the locked position...

One tape that has been used is the same as a brand new one I put in and the brand new one works fine... its as though the format on the tape is not allowing another peace of software format it...
