To put things in perspective you could probably get a pair of adjoining "Deluxe King rooms" (One for the patient, one for the Nurse) in the Ritz London and a full time private nurse and get change out of that.

It sums up perfectly why every government institution in the UK doesn't have enough resources and is blaming a lack of money. In China they can probably provide the same service for about £10,000 a year and probably far less if the carer is on slave wages.

For £1300 a week most people in the country would take care of her full time and probably give her a far more intimate/loving home and better standard of life but bureaucracy and paranoia about mistreatment no doubt prevents that.

I'd be curious how that figure was reached so would not be surprised if it included the sum total of all staff members in the units wages.

You could say a school costs say 20 thousand a week for a student if you count all the wages and costs and then apply them to just one student rather than the whole number. (20 thousand a week to keep a school open actually sounds very cheap I suspect it's a lot more for a big one)

13k? 1 week? Sounds like one of those things that's been outsourced to save money... And as we all know outsourced to save money = 10x the old price... I hope its not a real cost... Some things technically cost a lot like if you go to A&E with a ripped off finger nail technically that cost a lot for you to see a doctor and get a bandage but had you not gone to A&E the NHS would have spent exactly the same that week (maybe £50 difference for one more plaster)

Off-topic, but what's the obsession with unicorns lately? Everywhere I go it's unicorn-this, unicorn-that. E.g. go to a coffee shop and they have unicorn milkshake. It's basically the new My Little Pony or something.
