when i use the secret SNR slider, am i aiming to move it up or down for the best results ? its currently on 100%

Moving it down lowers your snr and increaces your sync speed.

hmmm some experimenting seems to tell me that my exchange ignores me and wont connect at all unless its default.

lower/ higher, bit rate on or off, no difference, it wont even connect!

i finally got it lowered to 26.8db from 27.7db, on 50%, however my connection speed is remaining at 1152kbits, does this mean my isp IS lying to me and has me capped at 1mbit when im paying for 2mbit ? or is it cos im not on MAX ?

Lpair: inner or outer

Trellis: on or off

Bitswap : on or off

SRA: on or off

DMT is of no use[tweakwise] if you are on a fixed sync package, it needs max or adsl2 etc...
