Hey up dudes.

I have a strange one at work today. Some of our users are loosing internet connection and looking on their ipconfig's iv noticed their DNS has changed to the generic 192.168. So i release, renew & flush then it comes back on.

Anyone had this before? whys it changing by itself?

Im new to the whole DNS thing so sorry for the naive'ness if its a simple solution. :D

Has somebody plugged in a cheap router (or similar) which is giving out incorrect DHCP?

Iv only just taken over this place, although the kits old but still Cisco stuff. So i wouldnt of said it was this. The problem is its not everyone. Usually its just people with laptops who come and go so its not a big deal. Although its getting worse today iv had it myself and 4 other people on standard computers.

You could try setting it manually in the TCP/IP settings. But then that may cause problems if notebook users use ethernet connections at home.

I do this to sort it out, then i put it back to obtain the IP and its works fine. I even tried to reset the IP stacker with the Netsh command in cmd.

Its an odd thing to happen right?
