DNS Forward to WWW

I'm not an expert when it comes to DNS management and domains so maybe someone can help me out. I have a .co.uk domain that I have registered through Register1 and I have changed the DNS settings to point to my hosts nameservers. It works perfectly fine but I would like to forward requests to http://mydomain.co.uk to http://www.mydomain.co.uk automatically like many sites do. How do I go about settings this up?

My host uses cPanel if that's any help.

You need to create a record in DNS for mydomain.co.uk and point it to the same IP address as www.mydomain.co.uk, after this is done you need to create a host header (or equivalent) so the webserver recognises http://mydomain.co.uk is an alias of http://www.mydomain.co.uk

I've only done this with IIS so I don't know how this would be done in linux boxes etc

I've changed some settings, just waiting for the DNS to resolve and we'll see if it worked.

Do this is your .htaccess file. Have a permanent redirect from the non-www to the www.

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Put that in a .htaccess file in the web root with the appropriate URLs

Thanks, worked perfectly once the DNS finally resolved. Will this cause google to see my site as only www.mydomain.co.uk since I am doing a 301 redirect to the www.
