DNS info ?

Hi All I have been reading about DNS Servers , but i,m a bit puzzled about what is the advantage of using a free DNS alternative ,like OpenDNS ? :confused:

In some cases your ISP's DNS servers may be slow, in others they may redirect you against your will to advertising pages (with OpenDNS you can turn it off, but I still prefer to use other publicly accessible servers such as 4.2.2.1-4.2.2.6).

The advantage is if the DNS servers provided by your ISP are pants.

what is 4.2.2.1-4.2.2.6 ? i,m not well up with DNS stuff :confused:

They're addresses of DNS servers.

okay i,m with you , and these replace the Open DNS Servers in Static DNS 1 & Static DNS 2 ?

yes, I use 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2

they're just as quick, and they don't have any of the annoying DNS redirects that openDNS has
