Do 970 Strix Coil whine?

A friend of mine may bite on today only, are these likely to whine though as he has a v quiet pc..

I think its a bit of a lottery, don't forget you can always return it under the DSR if it does. It may be possible to get one pre-tested.

everything has a chance for coil whine, it's not representative of manufacturer quality it is simply luck although reportedly some cards have a perceived higher chance to whine. OCUK will sort you out though

I think its just based on chance. Obviously you hear more people on about coil whine on the 970/80s but afaik its due to the higher clocks which are increasing their chances of whining! Just tell your friend if it does whine and is actually annoying to the point you can hear it over say like a dvd drive spinning up then i believe overclockers will allow you to RMA/DSR it. However overclockers will try to replicate the coil whine and if they find it is bad they will replace the card.

But i don't think its a big problem on these cards just slightly more common because of the clocks. Usually coil whine will wear off with a good couple hours of looping through heaven or something.

In my experience coil whine is one of those things which doesnt get better with age!

If its noticeable, you should RMA it.
