Do all modern LCDs suffer backlight bleed?

Or is it just Samsungs?! I received a 22" Samsung last year and it had awful backlight bleeding so was sent back and I went back to my 17" Sony LCD which has none. The LG ones we have at work have none either. Nothing at all if you look closeley either with full brightness. These are old 17" ones.

I picked up a Samsung P2250 last night and on 100% brightness you can see some backlight at the top and bottom but at about 50% brightness it's not noticable until watching a film in the dark which has black bars at the top and bottom.

Is this normal for all modern LCDs or do people get ZERO backlight bleed like the old LG and Sony TFTs we use at work? As in you can't even see a spec of light coming through and turning the screen gray...

Nope, not all. High grade ones, like a NEC or Eizo, will very rarely have any bright areas at all, and if they do they'll send someone over to replace it for you. Cheap ones, like most of the £150 TN varieties, seem to be more likely to have some issues than not.

Leakage is down to too high tolerances between the casing and actual panel, so it's mostly down to how well they're put together (or how good you are with electrical tape). I had a Samsung T240 for a short while, and I could actually see a difference in the bleed by pushing aganst the lower edge of the display with my thumb (it had a horrible leak at the bottom left corner). Expensive ones use are made with aluminium frame and low tolerances "under the hood", while cheap ones are usually all plastic.

Both Sony and LG used to make decent quality mid-to-high cost units, so it's not really suprising if they're ok. If you want a perfect one, then either spend the cash on a NEC/Eizo/Dell Ultrasharp/[equivalent high grade model], or play the return lottery with Samsung TNs

Cheers. I would like a Dell to be honest, but I don't like the new models. I preferred the old ones like the 2407wfp. They may have been square styled ones but I prefer that to the rounded plasticy ones I see now :(

Pretty much no backlight bleed on my samsung 2342BW - theres a tiny bit of bleed near the power LED thats it and its pretty much un-noticeable unless you really really go hunting for it.

Virtualy none on my benq fp241w, though my first viewsonic vx2025 was pretty bad, when it was replaced due to dead pixels the replacement was much better.
