hello, just wondering if all opty 146's clock as i have two (panic bought when they were running out whilst drunk!) unfortunately, i dont have a rig set up to test them but my mate does. However, he was going to take my spare one off my hands & decided to test them both but has told me neither of them will go above 2.4 no matter what voltages they have. One is a CABNE 0545 & the other is a CAB2E 0545. Is this likely to be true? The board they are being tested on is a DFI Lan party (top of the range) which i have purchased from him so i did expect to get somewhere near 2.8 on at least one. The only poor quality componant in the set up they were tested on is the PSU which is only 400watts. He is pretty good at clocking & sugests that the PSU may be the problem but i am starting to think maybe i have two CPU's that dont want to clock. Any replies would be helpfull

I agree, there are some poor CAB2E 0545s about, but not that bad!

The CABNE 0545s are supposed to be less variable and better than CAB2E 0545s.

I run mine on a 425W PSU.

I would quite happily take the opteron and test it for you :D make sure it isnt the ram/psu/mobo etc :p*

*You may get my 3200+ in return (does 2.5ghz anyway lol)

Nice try, but i am now starting tio think that maybe i should be testing both these for myself :D

Good call - there are plenty of people here who will help if you get stuck; and there are plenty of threads with very useful info in them - good reading.

Doesnt that tell you something ? if both cpu's with DIFFERENT steppings perform in exactly the same manner, it means its his system thats at fault. Elementary.

How knowledgeable is this guy? Has he reduced the HTT to keep the overall Hypertransport to under 1000? Has he set a memory divider to keep the RAM in spec?

FWIW, my CAB2E 0545 does 2764 at 1.58v - just a really crappy chip but a lot better than 2400!

Just got my CABNE 0545 to 3GHz tonight, needed 1.6v but I don't honestly care if the chip burns, it was only £100:p

As long as it stays under or around 50° I'm happy. One thing I did need to do is point a fan over the mosfets, the PWM temp was close to 60°C:eek: It rarely sees 37°C now:)

So yeah, CABNE = good if you aren't scared of volts, I think it was the CABYE 0540 that was the chip to have?

yeah, good point - must admit i hadn't really thought about it like that, but i suppose that makes perfect sense. just have to get the rest of my kit now to be able to test them myself. All i need now is a PSU, Graphics card, Sata drive, better memory......... oh the list goes on & on :D

heres hoping, wont get my board / graphics card till friday so no testing till then. Only bought the cpu cause i'm still waiting for my 165. Was planning to just sell it on, but if it's a clocker!!!!
