Do any ISP's provide ADSL2 speed estimates before ordering ?

Do any ISP's give an indication of expected speeds on ADSL2 in the same way they do for ADSL ?

I've just checked the number of the place i'm hoping to live and it's LLU with o2/Be/Sky enabled. Sky suggests 4.5mb for ADSL but nothing for ADSL2. I've looked at the graph on the be* forums and using the ADSL speeds given as a very rough guide to anticipated line stat's it looks as though ADSL2 will give pretty much the same speed as ADSL but with a potentially greater upload in theory. If that's the case I i'll go for the 8mb product and see what it sync's at or am I missing something ?

Thanks :)

Sounds like you've gone about it the right way to be honest. The advantage to going with the lower end product at first is that the ISP will generally be more than happy to upgrade you should you decide you want it :)

I'm about 3.5KM from the exchange. When I went from ADSL to ADSL2 I gained 1.5 - 2Mbps (4M to 6M). Can't get anywhere near the advertised 16M available to me on the service but I did it for the price drop more than anything.

Reckon you need a pretty low download attenuation, i.e. living close to the exchange to reliably get above 8M.

Cheers,

Nigel
