Do any USB headsets work in Vista?

Just completed a new PC build with components bought from here on OcUK.

I've also made the jump from good auld XP to Vista.

Everything looking ok, but my trusty Logitech USB headset will not work with Vista.

It finds the headset but says it cannot install any drivers ( error code 10 ).

Headset wont work now.

I've Googled the issue and it seems to be affecting an awful lot of people with many different headsets.

So are there any USB headsets out there that work with Vista, or am I looking at just going back to a "jack plug" based headset?.

I don't have any solution for your unfortunately, but I have a Logitech USB headset which has worked fine with Vista since day one. Just plugged it in and it was detected and worked straight away.

I know its for XP but you could take a look at http://www.pchell.com/hardware/usbcode10.shtml as it has some tips for working through the error code your getting. I assume you've tried using different USB ports? What sound card are you using? Perhaps there is an incompatibility there which is causing the problem.

I finally found a *fix* for this problem after a good amount of Googling.

Go here:-

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933262/

Then on that page, have MS send the hotfix out to you via email.

Fix works for Vista 32 & 64bit
Fix is for: Logitech USB Headset, Logitech USB 250 Headset, Logitech USB 350 Headset (maybe more)

They send you a link to a zip file which is password protected and not publically available either ( very strange?!! ).

Just tried it and it works fine.

You will no doubt find that fix stops working after a few reboots for some reason. Download service pack 1 and that works a treat. Well that my experience with that problem

You were correct.

So at the moment, I can safely say there is no one using a USB headset with Vista.

It's not possible to do so.

Really annoying.

And if anyone posts in response saying "No, you are wrong......I am using a USB headset in Vista no problem" I need to know exactly what USB headset they are using and then I will purchase one, because this Logitech one I have here certainly doesn't work and from what I've read on Googling this issue, there are very few folk who have got a USB headset to work under Vista.

I'm using my Xbox 360 headset with my Vista x64 fine and have been for months.

The downside is to plug in the wired version of the headset you need to have a wired Xbox 360 controller plugged in for the headset to slot in the bottom of it.

I don't mind however so it's all good, the 360 headset is a great piece of kit imo, I guess you could call it USB to an extent, it pops up as a USB headset on Vista anyhoo.

If you download service pack 1 Beta it should work , you'll just have to uninstall that once the offical one comes out thats all

Im using a Logitech USB headset not sure with ones (cheap) and they have worked with no problems at all. Vista installed the drivers and they are great.

I'm using a microsoft brand headset, but it doesn't work along with an Xbox controller, sends the sound all fuzzy.

To fix it you have to unplug the xbox controller then restart your computer, really annoying as I play Pro Evolution 2008 on my PC but also want to chat to my GF at the same time.

Saitek have Vista x64 drivers etc for their Cyborg 5.1 USB headsets http://www.saitek.com/uk/down/drivers2.asp

Cyborg headset info herehttp://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/headsets.htm

Cheers for that info, appreciate it.

Is that simple enough to do?. I mean, uninstall the Beta of the service pack?. Also, does the beta of the Vista SP not put some sort of "watermark" or something on your screen?

Are you running Vista with the Service Pack m8?.
