for higher stable framerates than over their stock voltage?

somebody said here on the forums that you can adjust the voltage in the visual ATI control panel? if so is that enough?

if not a volt mod would be needed on the card, as im wondering how much more i could push a 2900 card on water. if ill gain 100+mhz on core and mem from that then its worth it, less than that then its not.

It depends on how far you need to overclock, but most ATI cards can be volt-modded through software now.

You just need to use ATI Tray Tools or ATI Tool, it's all in there and it's really easy. Concorde_Rules had a good guide to doing it stickied in this forum and it'll hopefuly work for HD2900. :)

How much extra volts does it let you add?

and if you can use software to change the voltage how come there is still a certain someone modding cards & doing hard volt mods instead of the software?

You can increase or decrease the volts on core and memory on X1800 Series, X1900 Series and X1950 Series cards and the upper-limit is far beyond what is needed to damage the card beyond repair so I wouldn't worry about running out of volts. :)

As for why people are still hard-modding, I don't know. I didn't even know that you could do hardware volt-mods on those graphics cards and I've not heard anyone on this forum mention it.

damn psp character limit

you should find him easily with google
Aye found it, made for some interesting reading. :)

Only reason I can see to do a hardware volt-mod on a recent ATI card really is if you're selling them on like this Viper John bloke seems to be doing. Takes away all the hassle for the end-user of messing around with ATI Tool or whatever to get the right volts.
