Do blu-rays need to be spun faster than DVDs?

(When playing films)

Because my drive makes far more noise when playing BRs than DVDs. It's quite annoying. I'm wondering if it's just the drive being stupid?

Blu-rays spin faster than other types of media (i.e. CD/DVD), so it should be nosier.

Blurays spin at a linear speed of 7.5M/s where are DVD is 3.5M/s.
I found that my Pioneer was running at full speed (4x or 5x I think) and it was LOUD!!!

But I used AnyDVD to get it to spin at only the speed it needed and it helped massively but it was still not quite as quiet as DVD.

OK, thanks for the info (literally).

AnyDVD's speed reduc doesn't work for me. :|
