Do chequebooks expire?

Need to write out a cheque (very rare for me) and i've got an old chequebook from back when the bank was Abbey National, which still has most of the cheques in it, that I last used in November.

In December Santander sent me a replacement chequebook out of the blue and i've no idea whether I should use the old one until it's empty or start using the new one straight away or whether it doesn't really matter.

I can't find much online that says one way or the other.

They don’t have an expiry date and should be ok unless the sort code, account number, or bank name changes. I'd start using the Santander ones.
