Do conroe batches really matter?

I was wondering if the batch of a processor (in this case Core2Duo) really makes that much difference to overclocking? I heard somewhere that the reason someone couldn't overclock as well as the next was because of this, can anyone put my mind at ease?
 
damn, now what am i going to do with this canister of liquid nitrogen? :(
