Do CPU's need to warm up ?

I can clock my phenom to 4.291 @ 1.5 volts if is already around 50c but if try when its a lot cooler crashes straight off ?

Just a weird question.

How do you mean cooler? As in from boot?

A CPU should heat up pretty instantly. Like < A Minute..

CPUs overclock better at lower temperatures, as far as I'm aware.

Yes from boot i can go to 3.6 straight off when temps are about 30c but i have to bring it gently to 50c so to speak before it will stabilise running 4191 @1.5 volts.

Sounds like you've bad contact or a picky bios. Have you checked contact and latest bios or possible a deep clear?

Also 1.5 is a lot, what cpu is it? My X2 to X4 does it a very low 1.4v

I would be far to scared to ever go near updating a bios !

Could be due to soldering but its a long shot. When its cool the metal has retracted and loss of connection, if some how it turns on and heats up, metal expands making a good connection.

Long shot, but you never know.

Possibly, ill be glad to be shot of the board TBH, ASrock M3a770de, cant get the temps right and lags up constantly when doing video, sometimes for 10 - 15 seconds. It's fine fine for audio and even an old COD world at war game plays really well!

When you say OC when it's warm, do you mean from within the OS or rebooting and doing it in the BIOS?

Its boots fine every time, under normal conditions the system works well but to get to 4.2 overclock i have to wait untill its about 50c.

Anyway it will be gone so soon so thanks
