Just a quick Q - Do Dell monitors come with onsite warranty?

Eg: Dead pixels etc ?

They do come with on-site warranty - as in if you have a problem and you phone them up about it they should be at your door in a day or two with a replacement monitor. They wither take away the faulty monitor there and then or collect it the next day.

As for the pixel policy, with their Ultrasharp range monitors if you have single bright/hot pixel then they will replace the monitor. However, if you have dead pixels then there is a tolerance level for this - so depending on the number, their location and concentration they may not replace the monitor because of dead pixels. That said, it is always worth calling them up as it seems the tech support guys have a bit of leeway with authorizing replacements (ie make a fuss and see if they placate you).
 
I remember reading that the monitors they replace it with aren't new and sometimes have different issues - like excessive backlight bleed, etc. Does anyone know whether this was true and if this is still the case?

The old 7 day burn in and return game works wonder with distance selling regs thankfully.

I had to return 2 Dell U2311hs due to dead pixels - annoying black dots in the middle of the screen when using Word was not cool.

Yes, some of the monitors sent as replacements by dell are refurbs, not brand new. When you call them up about a replacement if you ask they should tell you if you are receiving a replacement or a refurb. Sometimes they will offer you the options to wait a bit longer to receive a brand new replacement, though this doesn't always happen.

Also, if you aren't happy with the replacement you get, Dell will usually send you a new replacement - so long as there is an issue you can explain to them.

As Rikki says, if you do see dead pixels and aren't happy, then your best bet is to DSR as soon as possible.
