I've bought some 1/2" metal barbs for a radiator and pump and when I compared them to the plastic 1/2" barbs that came with the Swiftech components the ID was different. The metal barb's ID was between 1-2mm smaller than the plastic one's. I've checked on a few web pages and they never say what the ID of the barb is. I'm a little confused because the ID is very important. Do all 1/2" metal barbs have the same ID? Do plastic 1/2" barbs have bigger ID that metal ones?

depends on what material the barbs are and what quality.

good quality barbs will have thinner walls to maxmise flow. a brass barb will probably have a thicker wall than a steel barb which is inherently stronger material which is then chromed.

I've found they can vary by upto a couple of mm, DD hi-flow are the largest at 10.5mm and some generic brass ones I got from my local pneumatic store are the smallest at 8mm.

I've got my DD Hi-flow barb today and it's ID looks huge compared to the other metal barbs that I got. I haven't got a caliper to measure it accurately but with a ruler it comes up to 10mm.
