As the title says, at the moment i'm using an ethernet cable i received when i got my BT hub, if i were to buy a highspeed gold plated ethernet cable, would it actually make a difference in terms of ping etc when it comes to gaming.

Thanks.

Not compared to one you'll have got with a BT hub, no.
Just ping your router (probably 192.168.1.254) say 100 times to check you aren't getting any packetloss and that max latency is 1ms or less.

technically yes but majority of cables are likely to be CAT5e which are fine. i dont think i have ever seen a gold plated ethernet cable before :)

Nope, internal house networking will not benefit from buying cables made from the finest cold plated cables hell even cat 6 is overkill tbh.
