may remember my last post about the evga and my wish list thing i got going on, well ive noticed the prices have gone up or not as cheap as they were and so seen ones from fractal of same or more or less power and modular for less..

now i hear they make nice cases as do silverstone and antec, but their power supplies are questioned and so was wondering if fractal might be in the same boat?

mean i dont plan on a gtx 970 or anything like that as i dont know how that will go with my i3, but if i get a new psu i might aswell not buy another 350w thats of better quality or a 400w as that would be silly.

Just like Corsair, EVGA and many others, Fractal Design don't make any of their psu's. Their primary oem is ATNG (never heard of them) with a single range each built by Seasonic (Edison M), HEC (Integra R2) and FSP (Integra). I presume you are looking at the Newton R3 that OCUK sells? It's a ok unit but nothing special. I guess they have kept the cost down by it only being semi-modular which is why you get a Platinum unit at this price. Review here.

thanks for reply..

no actually i was on another site that deals with all sorts as thats where my wishlist is for the moment and they were integra units, i did see HEC units, but never heard of them..

dont know what to look for really, i dont want it to cost over 60 given i currently dont need the power outputs, just dont want to regret not buying bigish power lol

Have you had a look at the Superflower FX range? They are perfectly good bronze rated units but are not modular (at least there's no led's that you can't turn off). The Gold rated HX range is worth a look too. If you want full modular then there's not much around that's better than the EVGA GS 550w for £65.

I don't know what full modular is tbh as my old gaming computer came with an HX1000 and while that was modular it still had built in cables that covered pretty much everything required, so I have no idea if that is classed as semi?? It did have 2 Sata cables plugged in that were needed, but being 2nd hand it was probably missing cables..

Only reason I want modular is for the fact that my cable tidy can be quite terrible most of the time and this case I've got has a window, so rather keep the clean look it currently has ha..

I know super flower is good, but I haven't looked up their units, amongst the low-high price the evga models come in the low-mid area, I've seen enermax or whatever under 70, I hear they are good?..

I just don't have a power hungry computer so I'm spoilt for choice really.

Fully modular just means that every cable is detachable. With semi modular a few of the cables will be hard wired (24 pin, 8 pin cpu etc).

SuperFlower are very good. If you look at all the 8 Pack pc systems on here, you will see that they all use SuperFlower power supplies.

Enermax were a good manufacturer, but they no longer make power supplies. Most of their units are now made by Channel Well Technology.

If you are not in a rush then wait for the EVGA GS 550W as mentioned above. You won't get anything better for the money. You should qualify for free delivery if you are mainland UK once you hit 250 posts.

thanks for reply..

no im in no real rush, but if i can get a new psu ideally as a gift then i will, im going to be adding more ram and see if i can get an ssd also, so no rush to spend too much at once..

full modular is what id want then, specific cables only sounds good :D

you could always do what I'm doing, waiting a month until cyber monday. I'm hunting for another 290x/ PSU and figure i can get a psu bargin and then hopefully pick up a 290x that some1 else has upgraded from

well with Christmas round the corner and my youngest daughters birthday, i havent got the money for my own luxury, so im hoping i could get one as a present ;), so i suppose i will see what happens, but because im 30, i tend to get a little more to buy what i want, so i will see what sales are on...

while ive never had 8gb ram before, after 3 months i am itching to try 16gb ha, so want the extra 8gb stick and people kept suggesting ssd, so get one of those.....how often these cyber mondays/black fridays?? ;), i want it all ha!
