Hi Guys,

I plan on buying a wireless xbox 360 controller for windows, i was wondering with the games for windows which are xbox 360 ports, is there a control setup within the game that can be set so you can use the 360 controller for windows? Do you also get vibration feedback?

Do you know if the controller has motion sensing or have microsoft not released that yet?

thanks in advance

Wireless 360 controllers do not work with PC games the last time I checked. And the wired controllers are just generally a pain in the ass to configure for games like CS. However if you play something like PES09 or any other silly lego game im sure you can configure the wired controller quite easily.
TBH. GET AN XBOX

Most Games for Windows games have the PC 360 controller enabled including vibration (not sure about wireless). If not then you can always download free programs that let you map controller buttons to keys on your keypad.

No motion sensing yet. Not even on Sixaxis.

All the Windows for Games Ive played so far(Gears of War, Lost Planet) sets the gamepad controls to as they are on the 360 with vibration. Havent seen any news about the motion sensing controller since E3.

Thanks for the reply

The reason i asked my questions is because i hate how when you play a PC first person shooter with a game pad, it is very difficult to control the view point with a analogue stick as the game was designed for a mouse. But if the xbox 360 games for windows are actually configured so the aiming with the analogue stick on the game pad is identical on both PC and 360 then sweet. But is that true? As i would like to play some ported xbox 360 first person shooter games on the PC with vibration feedback.

thanks for the reply, as far as i know the sixaxis for PS3 has motion sensing hence the name sixaxis.

thanks for the reply, your right but there are some hacks. But there are now xbox 360 wireless controllers actually designed for the PC. They can be used as well on the 360 but actually designed to be compatible for games for windows. So it should work right?

dvdbunny, use multiquote lol

Anyway, I have a wireless receiver for the PC and that lets you use any 360 Wireless controller. I can't say I use it though. I use it for my wireless GH guitar so I can play custom songs on the pc.

All recent games I have played, have had 360 pad compatibility, with the controls already set up (and vibration). I did download the driver for the wired 360 pad from MS though (no idea if thats relevant or not).

The games are:
Bioshock
Vegas 2
Crysis
Dirt
Grid

I assume all pc games that are out on 360 will use the pad fine.

1920x1200 gaming with AA and AF, 360 pad, half price games of the 360:) cant go wrong

It is a requirement of the new 'games for windows' label that it must support a xbox360 controller without configuration, just plug it in and play. Gears of war on the PC will even switch to the 360 controls while playing if you plug in a controller. It is possible (but pricey) to buy a USB wireless pad receiver for the PC, it's simple to set up and works very well, but tbh i would advise if you own wired pads to use those due to the aforementioned large price tag of the receiver.

Crysis isn't on the 360, i didn't think they would make compatibility with the 360 controller for games that are not ports of xbox 360 titles. Well can i ask, is controlling a gun in crysis with the analogue stick on the 360 controller easy to do or much harder than a mouse to be precise?

I meant Sixaxis's motion sensing doesn't work on PC :(

I didn't know you can connect a sixaxis to a PC? can the new dual shock 3 work on PC with rumble?

It's actually nowhere near as expensive as it used to be, xbox 360 wireless controller and PC receiver:

Sweet! I gotta get one of those.

I was reading the above link comments section and found this quote 'Amazing controller. Really. I use it to play Perfect Dark on my laptop and it's perfect. I only wish it worked with my desktop PC, but thanks to the immature drivers it doesn't.'

I never knew Perfect dark zero was available on PC?

Edit: with this controller and now that games for windows live is free, that's basically xbox live gold membership free of charge for windows users, it's just like having a 360 but on a PC.

Firstly - as said in my previous post, its a requirement of all games carrying the games for windows logo that they must support a 360 controller (with the exception of RTS games iirc).

Secontly - sixaxis uses blutooth, so all you need is a blutooth reciever attached to your pc. Same goes for the wii remote.

Which is why i keep putting off buying a 360, the majority of good exclusives for the 360 eventually come out on the PC and the pad support is spot on, basically my PC is just a giant 360 these days that plays games at 1680x1050 :D

For PC only games the mouse is 99% of the time, the best. For multi format games such as vegas 2, and most deffo driving games I prefer the 360 pad.
I have a ps3 and pc, so all I really miss out on is the 360 exclusives:) (which to me there are only a few I am missing out on so no need for a 360).

It's a shame about stranglehold as that is one game i would want to use the 360 pad. I just checked out the games for windows site and there is currently 74 titles available, i see no call of duty 4 on there, but it's already available on the PC so will the 360 pad work with it including rumble?

CoD4 is not a Games for Windows title. I don't think it has native support for gamepads. You could use something like this though - http://www.xpadder.com/ but vibration would not work.

Having said that, I've got no clue why you would want to use a pad over a keyboard and mouse in a PC FPS game anyway!

Fyi the receiver (I just purchased one) is just £12. So far I've played Grid on Steam with and it supported the wireless controller perfectly, with no issues.

As Streeteh said, if it carries the Games for Windows cert...
