Do "generic" wired Xbox 360 controllers work on Windows?

Aye been using one for years. Work with the Steam Link also.

Edit. In fact Windows fine but can't remember if I have used that particular pad on my Link yet...

Proper ones can be had for under £20. I have 2 and use them often. No drivers required (Windows 7+)

Wouldn't bother with third party ones, MS hardware is rock solid.
 
Yes they work just fine in my experience although might not be as durable as an official thing that are not too expensive nowadays.
 
I got a generic 360 pad from ebay years ago. It was IMO terrible, the official ones are cheap enough nowadays so I'd be more tempted to get the official wired controller if it was me.

I have no idea what I got from ebay but the rumble was terrible and I had to disconnect the motors, other then this it did work - but I soon replaced it.
