Been a while since I last bought some memory.

On a Haswell board do memory sticks need to be in pairs or can I just through in a single 8GB stick as oppose to two 4gb sticks?

Thanks

You can put in just a single stick, you can even mismatch sticks but might have to reduce clocks/timings to lowest common denominator or worse.

Mixing sticks is generally advised against, mostly due to how different they process data.

Also just saves the headache if something does go wrong.

They should do , they will just run at the speeds of the slowest dimm or may need a manual configuration ( slower speeds or more voltage )
