Hi, I cant decide myself so thought Id see if input from you guys sways me
I have my PC as it is now, and kinda want to do something with it, been thinking about watercooling for a while now, never done it and thinking of having a play, so I've been looking into a decent WC set up and its gonna set me back about 800 notes, which when I think about it, if I sold my current set up I could get a pretty much dream set up for, maybe add a little bit more. If I did go for WC Id upgrade my gfx card to a 4870x2 at same time, as Id then get a full cover block for it, Id also prob bang a Q9550 in just for "future proofness" (yes I know I shouldnt use that term)
So basically I have 4 options
1) Be sensible my current rig is more than adequate, save my pennies, its valuable beer money after all :D current build listed below
2) Go for the custom WC set up I've been toying with, this would include a new case, Silverstone TJ07 btw, if you're wondering where the cost comes from
3) Go for new build, see ultimate build spec below
4) Say **** it and do 2 and 3, then cry when I next see the bank manager, lol

Current build
-------------
Antec 1200 case
Asus Rampage formula X48 mobo
E8600 CPU + Zalman CNPS9700 NVidia tritium cooler
2 x Sapphire 512Mb 4870's fitted with Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo Coolers
8 gig OCZ Reaper RAM
2 x 640gig WD Caviar blue HDD's in RAID 0
Asus Xonar Essence soundcard - Id port this over to new rig
PC P&C 750W PSU
Bluray and DVD drives

WC option
----------
Silverstone TJ07 case
Thermochill PA120.3 rad
Laing DDC 18W pump with EK DDC X-RES 100 top
EK FC 4870x2 GPU block
Swiftech Apogee GTZ Extreme CPU block
Noctua P12 fans
Tygon tubing and other bits n pieces

Ultimate build (very sexy)

Only thing I would change in that spec is to add a second 1TB drive and Raid 1 them for redundancy, other than that DOOOOO IT :D

Stick with what you have. No need to spend money on that for a good while yet. Are there really any games you can't play??

Wait until there are then upgrade, you'll end up spending less on a much better system when the time comes (probably a year or more away looking at your current spec!)

Although i'll be very tempted into just going for it, like what Darg said just stay with what you have. There's no need to build such an expensive rig when you have a beast of a rig already. It's not like performance is poor now is it? :p

No No alls good, should have said I use a HP LP2475W monitor but yeah rig works great no problems
I was saying that Ive been keen on the idea of WCing though, not done it before and would like a play, then when you look at how much it is, it makes me think thats an awful lot of money to spend on cooling, why not spend it on new (granted not necessary) system? And because the FC blocks arent cheap thats why I thouught if I do go WC Id upgrade gfx while Im at it?

I also have the 2475w, and I am really waiting on the new gfx cards to see if they're finally using DisplayPort so that input lag is minimised completely.

I like the idea of getting a new and unnecessary system and selling the old one. WC will be nice if you're obsessed about eliminating noise from your system?

Stick with what you have thrifty, your rig is great as it is. Upgrade when you really need to.

However, if you still have more money then sense, then email me and I'll take care of the money you have splashing about. :p;)

Noise is a factor, but not massively, the 1200 isnt too bad when everything is on low, which still copes with most things fine, only have to turn fans up really on demanding RTS games, plus I mostly game with headphones anyway (goldring NS1000's) so ambient noise isnt really an issue either tbh. Yeah the only cards Ive seen using displayport are the gainwards, it is listed on ATIs reference for the 48xx series but only gainward seem to incorporate it

I went for it, changed my E8400 setup for i7, a slight moment of madness and wanting to upgrade :p Although I didn't quite do it to the extents of what you want lol I kept my original graphics card, went for a smaller ssd and cheaper ram (still 2000mhz though). So in all, after selling my other components, it's cost me around £600 for the upgrade. £2k is a lot, but hey if it's burning a hole in your pocket :p

Waste of money for little gain.

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket a cooling system is not going to do anything massive for you is it, really. An SSD will offer the biggest change to your computing experience but the larger drives are very expensive.

I'd consider a change of pace. Get a Macbook. It's a cool toy and will give you something to learn and play with outside of the Windows world. You can use it to browse the web from around the house and won't need to power up your PC unless you need to game.
You will be able to sell it later for a good price too. They don't depreciate like PC parts.

If it aint broke Dont fix it.
No seriously as others on here have said Is there really anything you want your pc to do that it cant ?
This is probably an upgrade idea because your bored :) I've done that myself and like you have recently been thinking about upgrading mine BUT I have seen sense and decided my money can be spent on other things rather than possibly pointless (at the moment) PC upgrades.

I'd rather buy a new system than invest it in any sort of financial instrument. I mean, if you put down £2000 wit the Bank of England now, you will get back.... £2000 in a years time.. maybe!

With those upgrades, you'll be looking at basically no performance boost. Stick with what you have and look at upgrading with water cooling when a new generation of parts comes out, I say...

save the money, wait for new gen stuff and buy that + WC then, otherwise youll have to replace all your blocks then anyway. Could always buy the case now though so you get a new toy :)

keep your beer money!!! if you must spend just improve one thing, the one worst part. if you have £2000 spare you can afford some 3GB ram sticks. tis will get you to 12GB wich is always good.
