Do I buy an RX 7800xt or wait for the RX 9070?

Need advice on this..

Part of me is very tempted to pull the trigger and upgrade from my 7600 to a 7800xt, but I know the 9070 is right around the corner, not knowing its performance.. i'm torn.

I know the 7800xt is bulletproof and a huge upgrade, and very good value for money..

Am I being stupid even considering it? Is it just a no-brainer to wait 2 months for the upgraded platform and FSR4?

It looks like the 9070 will support a new sort of upscaling tech in the form of FSR4, that should hopefully be closer to DLSS in terms of quality. If you use upscaling or that's a consideration for you it might be worth waiting, as the 7800XT will at maximum support FSR3.X from what I understand. It's also going to be in the 7900GRE-7900XT performance range, so faster even outside of upscaling.

If upscaling isn't a concern for you for any usage, then the 7800XT is a good buy tbh if you can get it for £350-400, which isn't impossible.

The new AMD cards are likely to cost a fair bit more too.

Im in exactly the same position debating 7800xt/7900xt at the current prices are decent value imo compared to the new nvidia launches and the comparisons are well documented, this new card could go either way on performance/price and at that point the old cards will not be available.

Yes, but as suggested above, if you can get a 7800 XT decently under £400 I don't think you'll cry about it.
This - I swapped my 2080Ti rig with my son's 7800XT and I've definitely come out the winner. If you can get one for the right side of £400, you'll be happy.

(*his preference - he wanted my fully water cooled rig, which plays Fortnite & Rocket League at 1080p/280hz without a blip, rather than his air-cooled rig that seemed to be having new GPU teething trouble. I didn't mind him having the lower temps & power draw, considering his pc is on 18 hours a day).
