To cut a short story shorter, there's a 172 Cup being offered for a pretty cheap price an I'm in two minds about going for it.

The pros are:

Half the milage of mine (35k)

53 Plate (Mines an X reg)

It looks damn good on the outside

And the cons are:

It's more of the same, and taking mods into consideration whilst it probably handles better I think mines a touch quicker straight line, but I bet it's negligible.

I know mine inside out, had it for 37k or so now and know everythings ok. There are loads of unknowns/potential problems with getting another one. Still on standard exhaust and needs cam belt doing end of the year.

It looks horrific on the inside :( Drab grey cloth seats that whilst ok to sit in look horrible.

No ABS, not a huge concern but more for when the other half drives it.

So not sure if it's worth the 1-2k cost to change, after taking into consideration buying it and tidying it up, to basically just get a newer lower milage version of what I already have.

It's also been heavily tracked in that 35k, approx 300 laps of the ring. It's also used as a daily drive and I don't really see any of this being a problem, but maybe some things might be more worn out due to this.

Plus it's about 250 miles away :(

What would you do? :) I can find pics of mine and the potential if it helps...

I would stick with what you know, doesn't sound like nearly enough advantages to getting this other one, unless you feel yours is going to expire sometime soon.

I probably wouldn't bother either, save the couple of grand towards the next car which would be an upgrade rather than a mild improvement?

Definately want another Clio then?

Well this is the thing, I wasn't looking at changing the car for at least another 18months really. But this gives me the chance to buy a car below market value, run it for that time and hopefully not lose as much in depreciation as I will keepin gthis one. I rack up the miles a little, so the current car would probably be on 100k when selling, or near enough.

Current car (forgive the interior pics, it always looks naff in photos and the previous owner took them)

Yup, not sure what it'll be yet as it's a while off, but if I had to switch today it'd be an Impreza or Focus RS.

Saw that the other night on there, would be tempted myself if I was ready to chop mine in now.

It's certainly a good buy, but as I said, I think I'd rather wait and change completely. But I do see your point re mileage.

I'd keep the Ph1 personally as unless you're going to use it as a track toy then you're not getting any real upgrade. Sure you'll have a nicer looking exterior but you'll have a worse looking interior, in my opinion. You're not really going to gain anything straight-line performance wise, and what you do gain in extra grip/handling isn't really going to be noticeable on the road. Also, you've a £600+ job on the cards with the cambelt service due as well as £250+ for a new exhaust when (not if) the standard one fails.

In my opinion you'd be much better off putting the couple of grand it would cost you to one side and putting it towards an actual upgrade.

I agree with everything except the bit about the interior being worse! :p

Hehe well I did say in my opinion :p

I think it's mainly the seats in the Cup that put me off the interior as when compared to the Ph1 seats they look hideous.

Thats about it though, the rest of it is ok for a French hatch, I can't stand the interior of the ph1 personally :p

FWIW - I've seen lots of non cups on an 02-03 plate for 5k or less, in standard guise.
