ok so my new haswell mobo and cpu arrived yesterday, i just put it together this afternoon, all the other components are from my existing working signature rig

Gigabyte Z87N-WIFI and a i5-4670k assembled it with 8 gig of kingston hyperx from my i5-750, i assembled it outside of the case for a test run and nothing, the cpu fan spins up for a split second then stops, tried reseating the cpu, tried with 1 stick at a time of ram and still nothing, tried with only the cpu and ram installed but no luck, so i reassembled my old rig and all works fine again, so the reused components all check out fine, so im pretty sure its either the mobo or cpu. anything obvious i missed that I should try before i rma, or a way to figure out which of the two is at fault?

aye 4 all the power cables were properly connected, im only using the stock intel one while im testing, cant overtighten those crappy push pins :)

ill give the mobo pins a look tomorrow. cheers

just had a long inspect of the mobo socket, but no bent pins, still the same symptoms when i try and boot it, wish i knew someone with another haswell i could switch out to see whether its mobo or cpu, bit of a pain rmaing both when only one of them is probably at fault.

yea thats my guess too, but on the offchance and considering it was all one order i figure i better RMA both, ill see what they say on the support thread on monday, cheers guys.

no try with different psu?

i didnt think it would be worth it, the only other psus ive got available are CiT rubbish ones i salvaged from junk PC's, besides theres nothing wrong with my tx750, and corsair already certified it for haswell.

could try them tho before you rma, even the cit would be ok to test with for a few minutes

gigabyte and haswell are picky when it comes to psu's

also tried leaving cmos/motherboard battery out for a good 30 minutes?

ill give it a go after dinner, i have tried clearing the cmos tho
