Ok guys, quick question ive been running Intel burn test and it keeps scoring my 2600k with around 55000 . whereas other people i know are getting double that 11000 ish. Someone said i may have a knackered cpu as it could be only using half of what it should or something. Is there anyone that can verify that or help me fix the problem. Would an RMA be worth it? thats at 4.8 by the way. on stock its only giving me 38000

Thanks guys

yeah ive tried it on every possible combination mate, ive just set up an RMA. hope ive done the right thing. I didnt buy this on ocuk by the way. But ive only had it a few months. Do you think its faulty?

If IBT has been set up right then it can only be running less threads to get those scores. Can you go into task manager and see how many CPU Usage History graphs you have (should be 8).

There's so much confusion about IBT I really wish somebody would make some documentation.

You need at least IBT 2.51 on Win 7.

With Win 7, and in an ideal world, you'd see 32 times the clockspeed in the GFLOPS column, e.g. 4.4 GHz would net you a cool 141 GFLOPS. Sadly, in practice only about 80% of this is realistic by using a large amount of memory. I'll say it again and embolden for emphasis - the "standard" setting is NOT a stress test. You need to get onto "custom" and increase that memory usage to within an inch of paging.

Without Win 7 the software won't use AVX and you'll only get 16 times the clockspeed like a pathetic Core 2 quad. This is why you're getting "half the gigaflops" you should, wrong OS. Don't RMA it.

im on the version you say and ive tried max test and im still getting low scores. Im in the middle of getting sp1 now/ Ok i updated to sp1 and now im getting 105 which is nearly right. thanks guys.

Yep that's good mate. So if you're stress testing at 5GHz you should be using enough mem to get the GFLOPS up to about 80% of 5*32=160 which is about 128 GFLOPS.

That's a serious stress test then. 5 to 10 loops over 128 gflops is enough to be pretty sure of a rock solid chip.
