3 days after purchasing the card I noticed this is*it cause for concern (only happened once and refresh fixed)*. there was no oc on memory +00*and iv checked* gpz shows macron memory.

i had the same issue with my evga 1080s, it was a driver issue messing up with gsync, after a bit of reseasrch I rolled back my driver by one and i never saw the problem again

I posted on Evga 10 series forums and got a reply off a member called Sajin which seems to make things a little smoother for me on the desktop and surfing I,v not seen the issue again either.

DizzeeG - iv also been told the latest drivers could cause this*from time to time.

Sajin - This is correct. There is a way to fix it...
*
Open the nvidia control panel, select manage 3d settings, under global settings change power management mode from optimal to adaptive, reboot pc. Shouldn't happen anymore.*
*
Optimal power:*Reduces power consumption when the computer is idle and nothing is changing on the screen, the driver will not make the gpu render a new frame, the driver will use the already rendered frame from the framestore and output directly to monitor to save power. Sounds like you issue since refreshing the screen fixed the problem.
*
Adaptive:*Allows the graphics driver to automatically determine the proper performance state based on gpu usage. Allows the gpu to render a new frame when needed.
*
Prefer maximum performance: Makes the card run at its maximum performance state when 3d applications are running regardless of gpu usage. Prefer maximum performance shouldn't be set under the global tab as it can cause your gpu clocks to run at base clock all the time when web browsing.
