reason im asking is i have tried for 5 hours straight to attempt some sort of oc on the 4670k and z87x-oc board using the following template

An Easy 4.4/4.5/4.6GHz Template:
Here are the settings I used; you can use them as a template for your settings:
Profile #1 Basic Profile:
CPU VRIN Override LLC: Set to Extreme (this is to make sure VIN doesn’t droop)
CPU VRIN Override Voltage: 1.7-2.0v (reduce if temperatures too high is causing instability, increase if temperatures are fine and you are unstable)
VCore: 1.24-1.34v
Ring Voltage: 1.15 or 1.2v
CPU Multiplier: 44x-46x
BCLK: Auto
Turbo: Auto
C1E, C3, C6/C7, and EIST: All Disabled (There is a table in Step #1 which describes the behavior or different power saving features and what to enable/disable to get the behavior you want.)

however no matter where i save the profile, load the profile etc etc my cpu clock never once reads above 3.4 regardless of stress testig program etc

anyone any ideas where im going wrong???

Are you checking in windows??? Try setting to performance mode instead of balanced.

Not familiar with boards other than asus, have you tried a bios update??

Also try setting your power states (c1 etc) to auto

Usually this points at turbo but without knowing what features in the bios are available it can be difficult to pinpoint.
One way of knowing if it's a bios issue is to restore defaults and set multi to say x42 and boot into windows, check with CPU-z, if it does not turbo to 4200mhz update your bios.

Try asus real bench 2

For a quick test just run the heavy multi tasking option(just the bottom one) takes about 4 minutes and for me if it passes that, it will run anything I ask of it, stress testing for hours on end is pointless

Looks good to me. Wish mine could do 4.4ghz with that voltage. Mine needs 1.265v for 4.4GHz, 1.285v for 4.5Ghz and then big jumps for anything more.
