Do I have backlight bleed?

I purchased a PG279Q and it just arrived. The monitor itself is fantastic and coming from a 60hz 1080P has blown me away. Unfortunatley I think the monitor is suffering from back light bleed and is quite noticible on games when it's dark.

Should I expect this level in an IPS or should I RMA?

Buying a monitor these days seems to be a lottery to get a good one. Whether its pixels or bleed, or something else.

I certainly wouldn't want be looking at that picture for any length of time. RMA its sub-standard ass.

That's way worse than the typical IPS glow. Return it.

I would return as that is very bad. But just to add the two pg279q monitors I tried previous to my PG348Q were pretty bad. Both on par to the one you have.

It made gaming and TV in dark scenes very uncomfortable and annoying for me.

As stated at the minute it's a lottery with IPS panels. Reducing the brightness to around 30-40 will help.

if it's having a bad effect on your gaming, desktop experience then I'd return it for sure.

it's not really the best photo and i expect it's exaggerating the reality quite a lot. can you take another photo as follows:

1) set it to an actual useable brightness level, not 100% or anything which isn't a realistic usage
2) all black screen in a dark room
3) take the photo with a slow shutter speed
4) taken from about 2m away if you can
5) make sure the photo is head on to the screen as if you capture any slight angle you will see the viewing angle related IPS glow which will over-exaggerate any actual backlight bleed

those pics look very over-exposed to me, and the screen looks like it's almost certainly set at maximum brightness.

Brightness is set to 70% for that test. The image is very close to how it looks in practice. The right corners are very noticeable in games with dark scenes and ruins the experience.

ok, if it's a reasonable representation of what you see in practice then it looks like pretty bad bleed from the corners. i suspect the viewing angle IPS glow is coming in to play a little, but it still shouldn't be that bad. worthy of a return to Asus

As you have only just received it, you can return it either as unwanted, or as flawed (/broken). If you return it as unwanted, then you might have to pay for shipping, etc., but no questions asked. If you return it as flawed, they should refund you completely after they confirm the flaw.

But in the latter case, I would like to re-iterate what Baddass already said:
Is it REALLY representative of the real-life situation?

Keep in mind, you don't have to convince us, you'll have to convince the retailer/manufacturer. They will check the actual product, not the provided images. So if you want useful opinions, it is imperative that the images truly represent the real-life situation. Otherwise our opinions might only lead you to the wrong direction. Especially the fourth image (with the six thumbnails) strongly indicates that the images are more likely over-exposed/-saturated, therefore exaggerating the situation.

On the other hand, if those images are what it truly looks like, then it quite simply is a broken unit, and there is nothing to worry about. No retailer/manufacturer would dare to deny such an obvious flaw.
