Do I have enough headroom for a 3090?

I have a 10980XE with a lot of drives and am overclocked to 4.7gHz on all cores, my power draw at the wall with processor is about 770W-780W CPU maxed out with a 1070Ti doing nothing. My PSU is a 1200W Zalman Acrux Platinum, that roughly leaves me with 420W to play with, power usage calculators seem to give me a green light with a 3090, am I cutting things a little close, or will I have to consider a new PSU or lowering my overclock?

Remember that you need to account for the inefficiency of the PSU. Platinum is 90% efficient IIRC so it's supplying a little over 700W. This leaves you 500W.

Possibly. You say your 1070 is idle but how many monitors is it running? Nvidia cards may not idle when multiple monitors are attached. Normally you would be fine but the 3090 is known for power spikes so you'll just have to suck it and see.

Just the 1 monitor, so pretty much idle. Last time I sucked on a PSU, I got a nasty tingling sensation.

The EBT is an entirely different lower tier PSU, I have the Acrux which has a 7 year warranty.

Any ways have bought a Thermaltake Toughpower Grand as I have another issue that needs addressing that could be PSU related, if not I have a backup that I can build a second PC out of.
