Do I have the power?

I have a 200W 1u shuttle PSU, I'd like to run an E5200, Radeon 7750 and a HDD from it, do you think the specs are up the job?

Thanks in advance

I dunno, the HD 7750 is a low power card, but the E5200 is still rated 65W and there are other components that use the 12V rail so you will really be pushing it- especially considering these are not super-cheap components.

Good point, I was trying to find some decent info on the power of the CPU.
Is that 65W the TDP from Intel? Isn't that different to power consumption (I'd assume power consumption could be higher than the TDP)?

Yea, 65W is the TDP so the actual power consumption will be a bit lower - the TDP is the maximum heat that the package is expected to emit, a figure it usually can't reach - even at full load. Since almost all of the input power in a CPU is turned into heat then the actual power usage will be a tiny bit more than this - but I think it is generally accepted that: watts of power in = watts of heat out.

Yeah, I figured it would be a tight fit, just wondered if I could use it or if i'd need to buy a more powerful 1u psu.

as it would be the perfect size for a nice HTPC system.

Yeah, thats sort of what I'm building, case is a bit different to normal tho ;), you might see it crop up in project logs sometime.

Can anyone recommend a psu of that size or smaller (probably not possible) that will run the specs above fine?

Not sure on pricing, but can't link to competitors anyway! I'm sure Google will help you

EDIT: seems around £60-70

Also it doesn't have to be a 1u shape specifically so long as it is quite small, there are many places I could put it

The one I have is 150mm x 81mm x 40mm

I'm not aware of any PSUs that aren't 1U shape and are roughly that small?

There are decent PSUs in these miniITX cases that are small, but I don't know if you can get them separately:

I can find basically the same psu as mine with 250W, there is a 300W but the price is annoyingly increased a bit, would 250 do the job?

Is there a model number or something? A link the manufacturers site?
Then we can check the individual power ratings [the 12V line being important]

250W Seasonic Flex ATX 1U PSU

Output Power: Maximum 250W continuous
Efficiency: >80% - 80Plus Bronze Certified

Voltage: +5V +12V -12V +3.3V +5Vsb
Max Load: 17A 18A 0.8A 14A 2A

*Max Combined load for +3,3V +5V 110W
*Total output power for this power supply 250W

Do you think this would be adequate? It's exactly the same dimensions as my 200W PSU

Yes I do :)
