atm im using this

FX [email protected]
asus crosshair v formula z
2x4gb xm23 1600mhz

a chap local to me has offered me £330 for my AMD setup and a OCZ 120gb SSD! lol

so say £350, would you go used and get a X79 setup or buy a new Z97?
im currently using a single 970 G1 but adding another in the near future along with a 144hz 1440p ips monitor

what do you guys advise?

thanks

In my opinion you won't see much of an improvement, especially in games.

£350 will buy you a decent i5 setup including a decent cooler for the megahurrtzz, but don't expect it to be a massive improvement. If you're definitely planning to go SLI though, the gear below would be a good start.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-SLI - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£12 Saving** £277.98
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2400HC11CDC01) £43.99
1 x Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler £19.99
Total : £351.56 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

For gaming stick with Z97. X79 offers nothing extra for gaming. X99 would give you more PCI-E lanes but at considerable cost.

So would it be wiser to stick with my AMD setup for a little longer then? Im playing a lot or ARK recently and noticed that core 1 is normally at 70-80 percent while the others stay around 30...

So thats what made me think about getting a intel setup for the faster single core performance and would be a better setup for 970 g1 sli.

What about getting another 970 g1 now?

I would certainly wait until Skylake, then spend all da moniez then as you'll hopefully see a more noticeable improvement. Shouldn't be too long now either.
