Hey all, im looking to upgrade, and I quite like the look of this bundle:
"Quasar 215i" Intel Core i7 4770K @ 4.2GHz Overclocked Haswell Gaming PC Bundle
Do I need 16g of Ram, or will 8 suffice?

I don't do any photo editing, sometimes muck about editing the odd gopro vid
and only play a few games (wow, BF3, grid 2, that kind of thing).
Running Win 7 64

Is it worth me shelling out the extra £67 for the 16g version?

Any advice welcome:)

For what you need it for based on what you have said then 8GB will be plenty you can always buy another RAM kit at a later date if you want more.

What they have said is true, you don't need the 16 GB :) just to point out though it not quite that easy to add RAM when we have overclocked the bundle, it often won't work with extra ram because of the extra strain on the mem controller with our over clocked settings :)

As you don't need it anyway though I would not worry

Not if your multiboxing an MMO :P

Well that's just plain insane. :)

Very true,

But surely, if they 'jot-down' the settings, reset it back to stock, add more memory (hopefully the same make/brand/speed) and reset the OC again that would be okay, right? :)

Sometimes, its not the losing of settings its the extra strain, increasing the memory density works fine (from my experience), i.e. going from 2x4GB to 2x8GB, but going from 2x4GB to 4x4GB usually does not (if the overclock is high, mild ones it will probably work).

If you are unsure and want to upgrade, just get written confirmation from our guys while you are in warranty that it is ok. If it turns out to not be and we have said its fine, we will attempt to fix the issue or refund you.

I'd consider 16gb, though prices are still higher than they used to be. Running a ram disk of 4 or 8gb and putting swap files & temp files (esp firefox cache) I find pretty awesome. Also from what I understand, higher ram allows you to put it on the ram disk and avoid excessive writes to the ssd. You can even just disable the page file, but some poorly written programs get ****y.

At the prices RAM is now i would say no, a year ago was a whole different story i got a 16Gb kit for £35 which are now £110.

16GB is great as you can have a decent sized ramdisk. Applications load a lot faster off them, and I find having them useful for things like file transfers and anything that requires high throughput really. :)
