yesterday i wanted to max out my water loop to check temps, so i ran kombuster and intel burn test at the same time. After about 20 seconds my system shut down.

My system specs are
i5 3570k @ 4.4ghz 1.3v
gtx 470's in sli @ stock
antec true power 750w

Do you think i require a larger psu? The online psu calculator said i needed minimum 0ff 536w!!

Are you certain your CPU clock is stable?
Have you stress tested the CPU on its own? For how long? And with what?

I ran 2 470's @750 core and 920 DO @4.2gz loads of fans watercooling and hard drives on 850 toughpower.

it is not the watts you need to watch its teh amps for high powered rigs.

Running both of them at the same time is insanely stupid. It's putting extreme stress on the system. Run them separate.

I know.. i just wanted to completely max out my system. Really just to make sure my cooling was good. I'm just worried my psu is not up to scratch, for a worst case scenario.

Same here, but p95 and furmark extreme burn, 4.2ghz 920 and x2 gtx 470's at 750mhz. 860w draw at the wall on a corsair hx 850w. Gaming load was 630w. Furmark alone pulled 740w.

For an oc'd cpu and gtx 470's, id be wanting a minimum of an 850w psu, especially if you ever intend to oc the cards.

Reading up on the specs of my psu, it should easily cope, It has more than enough ampage for 470 sli. As my rig is stable for everything else, i think i will just leave it alone. Next year i will be upgrading the gpus, so they/it should require less power.
Heaven and 3 treads of prime 95 at the same time work though.
Temps:
cpu 65c lowest core.. 72c highest core..
gpu 1 45c
gpu 2 44c

860w draw at the wall
It was at 860 and would have got higher but i stopped the tests. Got rid of the 470's and moved to a gtx 670 wf, seeing power draw in game now of 330w, cpu is now an i5 3570k, probably uses about 30w less than the 920 did.
